Assessment 1 Part 2:  Beginning Your Portfolio
WHAT IS A Portfolio?
 

GOAL: To begin an online portfolio, starting with a Personal Info, Interest Survey, & Journal Entry


START YOUR ONLINE PORTFOLIO
1.    Go to New York Career Zone: http://nycareerzone.org
2.   Select Text Version.(fastest): http://nycareerzone.org/text
3.   Select My Portfolio (top):  https://nycareerzone.org/text/portfolio/login.jsp
4.    Create an Account & Fill-in Your User Name Below:

Your User Name ____________ Your Password:  college

For now, please use college as your password--I will need to check your work.


TASKS:  Complete Tasks  1--3:   See link to SAMPLE below.
Task 1:  Personal Info:  Fill it in and copy it into this box. 
  • From the Portfolio webpage, see Menu at top of screen:  EDIT–SELECT ALL.  EDIT–COPY.
  • Click in this box and EDIT--PASTE.



Task 2:  Interest Profiler: 
This has 180 questions!  You may want to do it in 2 or 3 sittings

  • Press VIEW OCCUPATIONS.  SAVE.
  • Copy  list of occupations:   On Menu at top of screen:  EDIT – SELECT ALL.     EDIT – COPY.

Task 3:  Journal: 
  • Paste your Interest Profiler Occupations into your Journal. EDIT – PASTE.
  • Answer the following questions, and join your responses together so that they form an informal paragraph.

REFLECT:  In Online Journal and in Box Below
1.     Copy the informal paragraph you wrote in your Online Journal.
Using your MOUSE, SELECT the paragraph.         EDIT—COPY
2.     Paste it into the box below.  EDIT—PASTE.
3.     Edit the paragraph so that it meets general conventions of
Standard English.  Indent, use periods and capital letters, check spelling, etc.  Read it aloud to see if it flows.  Make final changes and FILE--SAVE.

portfolio:  a collection of important documents & samples of your best work.

CareerZone defines a portfolio as follows:  
A portfolio is a way of documenting your achievements in a specific field. They are a way of proving that you can do the things you say you can. Portfolios may include samples of your work, assessment scores, or other evidence of your abilities. The CareerZone folder is aligned with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Career Plan document.
